SUNDAY WAS GLORIOUS for so many of us I am sure. I was outside raking and
bagging leaves in my shorts. I felt great and happy to be outside with  working
hard to do a job that would be soon erased with more leaves falling.

Sure enough this morning as I looked outside much of my hard work was gone and
only the large bags filled with leaves told the story of the work already
accomplished.

I will rake and bag more tomorrow morning!

WITH NEIGHBORS FOR THANKSGIVING we  may enjoy  some of the Jed STEELE California
wines :

1 ) the  2012 Shooting Star Sauvignon Blanc, $13.99,  and the

2) STEELE Old-Vines " Pacini " Vineyard 2010 Zinfandel, $19.99. They are
both excellent. Everyone likes them  and I must say that the Shooting Star
Sauvignon and the STEELE Pacini old-vines Zinfandel that Jed owns works so well
with or just before a meal.
With the Zin we all  " tell great stories for ", " imagine great scenarios
for ", " relax and enjoy, smile, feel joy and absolute harmony, faith,
contentment for " ... pretty much everything except " to  die for  " : reason
being you can only die once.
You want to return for more of this type of contentment and joy when two or
more things complement each other so and Thanksgiving is a great time to enjoy
them with family and friends.

ALSO : Include the 2010 Cabernet Sauvignon Red Hills , Lake County dry red,
$21.99, 13.8% alcohol by volume, for when you want a stronger cheese or
something besides turkey, perhaps a flavorful vegetarian meal, a red meat?!?

flesh flavors and character and body. It's the full package and will make a

get some more for the customer as for our shelf. Also bought more of the Merlot
( $15.99, 12.5% alcohol by volume, ) that they are pouring by the glass down our
block here at PULPO is it? I think so? It's also got great structure and body,
character and another great food choice with again low alcohols. Made in the
European style by 4th generation Italians from the Veneto region. BOTH are
recommended. PULPO is on a roll, doing a great job with general manager Dave
Hansen on board now. Cheers.

everybody loved it - so fresh and bright and so easy to enjoy all by itself,
with a slight salmon or peach color. Dry.
2) DCL'S " Kingston Black " Hard Cider, $11.99, bone-dry like a flavorful
Pouilly-Fume - tasty, crisp, tart, tangy, razor-sharp, needs a meal to soften it
up, tenderize it some ... lovely, lovely price. Thanks for the great tasting
Ron!

b) I poured the EASTON 2012 Amador County Zinfandel, $20.99, 14.5% alcohol,
California, go to : www.eastonwines.com ) : smooth, bright, fruit up-front, no

softer fruit-forward, bright and toasty-roasted berry flavored, medium-bodied, a
real treat : best with food like white meats and things marinated and grilled!

b) 100% Garnacha Tintorera or Allicante Bouschet grapes from PASAMONTE,
this 2010 Spanish red from Valencia is leaner, a bit meaner, more muscle and

Mauricio Salton Here Tonight At Cleveland Park Wine And Spirits Tasting from 5 TO 8 PM.. Join Us, Never Any Charge ...

Cleveland Park Wine Cleveland Park Beer, Liquor & Wine
Featuring a wide, international selection of fine wines, micro-brews and spirits

THIS IS CERTAINLY A DAY OF REFLECTION ... AND SOME PANIC , NOT!

for us , MORE FOR ME , MORE to share and distribute and pass around, no time,
never any time, making the very most of the moment as we just have with ...

We welcome Mauricio Salton of his own family's winery SALTON HARMONIZA Vineyards here to the store tonight from 5 to 8 PM ... Join us ... enjoy, here are pictures taken later during the tasting that I add now. Cheers,  tony  9/ 11/ 2014

CARLA was just here , just after ERIC actually, Eric came in asking us for a
twenty/year old single malt that he bought here a year or so ago and wanted more
...

WE TALKED ABOUT THE SINGLE MALT AND LOOKED FOR IT AND DID NOT FIND IT AND ERIC
said he believed that it might not be produced anymore ...

WE TALKED and I showed him that I was writing up some different products for the
shelf and he looked at what I had collected and his first comment was that it
really represented quite a variety. hanks Eric, we want to show the depth of
what we sell here, that's our job, to bring this wealth of variety to your
attention.

ERIC PICKED UP each individual bottle and we discussed each bottle individually
before he went back to our shelves and picked up a bottle, reach up high
actually to retrieve a bottle of the Grappa Grape Chacha from TELIANI VALLEY in
Georgia, $16.99 a 375ml bottle, 42 percent alcohol by volume. I told him that we
had a bottle open if he wanted to taste it and he thought about it and finally
said : " Yes. " We tried it together and then he finally said : " I'm going to
buy this one . " By that Eric meant that he was going to buy the Grappa Riserva
Botti Di Rovere from SIBONA that I tasted just a couple of weeks ago with
Franceen Kahng our FABulous rep from Vias Imports. I could highly recommend it
to Eric as a result of having just tasted it : an old barrel aged grappa, aged
for 36 months, and WOW is it worth it for a special occasion, or simply when you
need or want to feel really special!

WELL, IF ERIC WAS GOING to spend for a 20 year old single malt scotch it is not
unreasonable that he would splurge for family and friends on a really fine
bottle of aged Italian grappa, 44 percent alcohol by volume at $70.99 a 750ml
bottle.

THEN CARLA was here asking me if we had any MONTENEGRO Amaro liqueur from Italy?
I said with a broad smile : " Yes, I have some. " And I went to show here where
it was and told her why this was just on the tip of my tongue, that I was
writing up today for our store email and I had thought to write up the
MONTENEGRO, $28.99 a 750ml bottle,  from Bologna, 23 percent alcohol by volume,
and then decided instead to write up the LUXARDO ' Abano ' Amaro , $25.99
liqueur, Girolamo Luxardo ...

NOW I HAVE DECIDED to write both up , the LUXARDO from Graham that loves it and
repeatedly buys it for it's extra punch and flavor and fire, and the MONTENEGRO
for Carla for it's subtlety, polish and finesse. We also spoke of Graham loving
RAMAZOTTI amaro originally, and of the AVERNA Amaro, On Special for $29.99 a
750ml bottle that is also smooth, polished and refined.

CARLA is a bartender, she bartended at DINO Enoteca recently and is now at the
Italian restaurant across the street from Le Diplomat ...

IT'S BEEN A STEADY STREAM of customers and suppliers this morning ...

WE HAD ROLF come with Nicola Gregoretti the Brand Manager of BACCHANAL Wine
Impors, Inc and I discovered both the BACARO Pinot Grigio Blush 2013, $13.99 a
bottle that I really liked from the Veneto, Italy, as well CAPOVERSO Syrah uscan
2012 dry red. also $13.99 : both quite smooth and elegant, balanced and fresh
and easy to drink and that we will sell in October, thanks Rolf, grazie Nicola
...

THEN ANDREW STOVER CAME IN WITH WINEMAKER MIGUEL MERINO OF Rioja, Spain
representing bottles of red and white Rioja made by himself and by his son. I
liked Miguel's wines better than the red Rioja made by his son that would cost
more on our shelves.

THANKS , GRAZIE CARLA, FUN TO TALK to you and catch up with you earlier this
morning ...

THEN WE HAD LAURA with her child in the stroller come asking me for a dry red,
under $10 to use for making some chili? I said that we had some wines that would
be suited for that and I showed her a bottle of the Syrah from CHANARMUYO Chamas
Honnorat from La Rioja, Argentina. Laura did not know the Syrah grape and so we
spoke of the Malbec grape and she told me that her husband would enjoy whatever
she did not cook with in the chili.

I HAD THE IDEA to introduce Laura to Miguel so that he could tell her about the
Syrah and the La Rioja Alta region in Spain. We were off, she liked that he was
Spanish and they spoke, we all tasted, she bought his bottle of the LORA
Syrah/Tempranillo dry Spanish red that she tasted, $10.99 a bottle ...

I LIKED MIGUEL'S wines that he described as : " the updated classic " ...

MIGUEL ALSO ASKED ME : " What vintage are you? " By that I guessed and said : "
You mean my age? " I was correct. I said : " 53. "

Laura also tasted the LORA Verdejo/ Sauvignon Blanc dry white, $10.99 ... it was
a grand event and time spent together.

THEN JOE CAME with co/owner Dave Pramuk of BIALE Vineyards in Napa Valley,
California, that likes to say that they at BIALE Vineyards make wines using the
Zinfandel grape that are Burgundian in style ... I agree, true, they do, loved
the elegance, fruit/forwardness, the brightness, the freshness, the pure
grapeness of the wines, including some delicious Petite Sirah... lovely. Dave
told me that originally in Napa a whole lot of Petite Sirah was grown, for many
years, way before the Cabernet Sauvignon. He also said that Zinfandel was there
way before the Cabernet Sauvignon ... love it, I did not know about the Petite
Sirah being grown in Napa ... wow, always something new and exciting to learn
...

SO I GOT BOTH Miguel and Dave to taste  together and enjoy each other's wines
that will all be here in the first week of October. It was a great serendipitous
moment like I enjoy, and everyone was welcome to join in and taste, share,
learn, grow and bloom and smile and feel joy broadly ... we did, too ..

THEN GREG CAME and we spoke beer and Roberto Donna and special birthday meals
fixed by Roberto / two of which I have helped on recently / ... and Greg highly
recommended the BIRDHOUSE Pale Ale from Pottstown, PA. It is brewed in honor of
Octerus Galbula ... I have to research this more. hanks for the recommendation
Greg, I value this as you know your beers really well ..., $10.99 a six/pack of
twelve ounce bottles, 5 percent alcohol by volume ...

A FEW ITEMS TO BRING to your attention :

1/ Windowpane Series Peaches ale brewed with Natural flavor and aged in

more body and more weight and girth and definition than before, also softer and
rounder, more plump and with great posture on the tongue ...

THIS IS CERTAINLY A DAY OF REFLECTION for us all as we remember the events of
the past and where we each were when September 11th, 2012 became fixed in our
thoughts forever. I remember getting over the Teddy Roosevelt Bridge just before
it was closed and wondering at first why so many well-dressed businessmen and
women were walking across the bridge? I also remember how I got to work and
Santos and I opened the store and we had our radio for our news and we had a
steady stream of customers in line purchasing whatever they wanted in shock like
all the rest of us. Santos and I never really moved from the register as the
line never stopped. It was pretty surreal and yet there was a real sense of
neighborhood as we all were there for one another during this national emergency
and tragedy.

IT TOOK US ALL BY SURPRISE and as I was driving into work I was planning in my
mind my wife's birthday as she was born on the 11th of September.

TODAY IS CERTAINLY A BEAUTIFUL cool , clear and brightly-blue-skied,
breezy-brrrr-morning. I walked our dog and we walked rather briskly as it was
chilly and I moved towards the spots of light. That was a driving force, find
the spots of sunshine to warm body, mind and soul and it worked pretty well.

I JUST LOOKED AT OUR CALENDAR and see that today is Patriot Day ( USA ). I also
see that Sunday was " Grandparent Day ". The 13th of September is also Chile's
Day Of Independence. I know that because I have been in touch with Manuel Rojas
, one of the owners of IN SITU, DOS PASOS and the ALMA wines of Chile. We have
done some great Big-Theme monthly wine-tastings and will do more with him again.
This year we will not be able to work it out in time but we can start planning
already for next year. Being proactive is good.

WE HAVE SOME RECOMMENDATIONS FOR YOU, from Santos Rivera ( beer and ciders ),
Ravinder Sharma ( liqueurs and liquors ), and from Michel Dumas and Tony Quinn (
wine ). We also deliver free of charge if you order more than $30. Just call us
at : 202-363-4265 and we will get you whatever you want delivered and in time,
for example to watch the second night of the series premier this week of the
show " The Voice ".

WE WATCHED PART of it last night my wife and I and I must say that I was caught
up by some of the individual stories and the voices, too. So much gets wrapped
up into these opportunities to sing one song for the 4 judges and see which may
turn their chairs around to possibly include them on their team? It is so hard
when you have their stories and the build-up for these singers and then you hear
their singing and none of the judges turn around. That's hard, really hard.

LAST NIGHT WHILE WATCHING " The Voice " I was drinking some of the Barbera Del
Monferrato 2011 TERRA D'ALERAMO  ( $8.99, 12.5% alcohol by volume ) from
Piemonte, Italy ( that was also just reviewed favorably by Dave McIntyre of the
Washington Post newspaper ). It really was smooth and elegant, bright and fresh
and it was the rest of my glass after our meal of thick pork chops, pasta and a
red pepper/tomato and carrot salad. I was enjoying these last few sips. My wife
enjoyed with our meal some of the really tasty D'ADIVAS 2010 Chardonnay (
$18.99, www.lidiocarraro.com - Jody Jackman poured the Merlot here last Friday
evening to great success and they are pouring the Merlot by the glass now at IL
PULPO a couple of store-fronts down from us ) from Serra Gaucha and made by
LIDIO CARRARO. It, too worked really well with our meal. Medium-to-light-bodied,
fresh, bright, crisp and well-focused with only 13% alcohol.

BUT WHAT REALLY IMPRESSED me and took me by surprise was how well this TERRA
D'ALERAMO tasted so good with a slice of the chocolate and raspberry cake that I
bought at Firehook Bakery on Saturday to celebrate my wife's birthday. It was a
great match and really did not loose anything as I ate a bite, sipped and
enjoyed. As a matter of fact it took a bit of the richness and sweetness of this
combination of a whole lot of chocolate, raspberry jam and raspberries
themselves! You might all want to try this Barbera : it's a winner both ways as
well as many more I am sure.

refreshing, not heavy, nicely-balanced, soft oak flavors, some bright
sunshine-butter flavors. What a treat! WE sold a whole lot, great price for this
delicious Chardonnay. The Cabernet Sauvignon dry red is also excellent at $14.99 I believe?

Benchmark Estate of MICHEL-SCHLUMBERGER ( $20.99, 12.9% alcohol by volume,

exceptional Pinot Blanc, and it's from California. I got to meet Jacques
Schlumberger back in 2000 here. That was a real treat! Cheers.

4) 2011 Loire Valley, Touraine Sauvignon Blanc from Jean Sablenay ( $10.99,

I LOVE COPYING and PASting and my keyboard does not work well so I cannot make a
capitol t and I cannot backspace, no hyphens, no percent symbols, a mess ...
bear with me today until my new keyboard comes ...

It's a day of stories and requests so far :

well as some of the ox eye VA. Lemberger dry red,... i have special ordered both

laurie came by for some tito's texas corn vodka as friedl at dinner last night

meal there ...

so i have been on the phone with suppliers and having a blast talking and
discovering, sharing, ... the whole thing this tuesday ...

it's the summer and it's hot outside and many are away and we need to enjoy the
time we have.

Here are some suggestions for everyone.

volume from escondido, san diego, CA. go to : www.stonebrewing.com for more info
... " we like it because it is dark and easy to drink . " there is so much green
writing on the brown bottle that it makes my head spin just to try and wrap my
eyes around it. Come check this out for yourselves. Cheers.

great divide : $9.99 a bottle, 1 pint 6 fluid ounces, 8.2 percent alcohol by

of our traditional bold character, but with a little something special to
commemorate this milestone ... "

www.victorybeer.com for more info,  : " all of the talk about peanuts and
crackers can really make you thirsty, especially in a town like philadelphia
where we flock to the ballpark like birds coming home from winter vacation. ...
"

thomas just came by asking for some of the Domaine DANIEL POLLIER SaintVeran "
En Messie " 2012, $15.99 a bottle, written up in the Washington Post newspaper
the other day. I told him that we had it and went to get a bottle. I also
recommended the 2012 Bourgogne Blanc Chardonnay  /  thomas did not know that the
Saint Veran was a Chardonnay / stainless steel CLOHILDE DAVENNE , $15.99, and
thomas bought a bottle of the Saint Veran. He told me that this was not the
first visit here for hi. He said to me : " the articles in the Post must get
some butts through your door? " I said : " No, not really but that I like to
support the Post and the community and so I try and have them here when the
articles are available each Wednesday. "

then I turned to our local rep Dan that sells me wine and asked him if the
articles draw any sales for them? I said that for us we get a few people asking
for the wines, but not many. Our local rep Dan said that it was the same for
him. We are a part of this community and we are happy that people like thomas
come to see us, that we are grateful for the business it brings us. We all work
together and help each other and that makes it all work, thanks Dave, thanks
Washington Post newspaper. I

I ALSO told thomas that I love holding a hard copy of the Washington Post
newspaper in my hands to read it each day. He agreed, said that he also liked
that.

I RECOMMENDED the CLOHILDE D'AVENNE Chardonnay to thomas because it is lighter,
crisper and more refreshing than the Saint Veran. It is hot and humid and to be
able to drink a lighter Chardonnay now at only $15.99 a bottle is perhaps easier
on the system and more easy to enjoy during and after the wine? Something to
think about ...

time for some liqueur and liquor from Malkit and Jagir :

1/ Zodiak Vodka Luxury Potato Spirits from SAGIAtaRIUS : $26.99 a 750ml
bottle,  40 percent alcohol by volume : November 23rd through December 21st ,
from Rigby, Idaho : " Sagitarius is represented by the image of the Centaur. A
mythical centaur symbolizing energy and power combined with an aspiring spirit
... Always a good sign. "

2/ Amaretto imported from LAZZARONI , Authentic, from Saronno, Italia,
since 1951 : On Special for $22.99 a bottle, 24 percent alcohol by volume : it
is great to get a real ' class act ' back on our shelves!

3/ Kentucky Bourbon Straight ' Single Barrel ' / Eight Generations /
$34.99, 94 Proof, from WAHEN'S , made now for over 2 years ... hand bottled,
Barrel Number 7563, signed by Charles W. Medley ... something really quite
special and worth coming to get a bottle to discover if you all do not know it
yet? Cheers.

4/ Blended Scotch Whisky from CUtY SARK : On Special for $19.99 a bottle :
it is great to have an old favorite back in the store once again. ried and true

WINE From tony and fernando :

1/  Le CANON Du MARECHAL from the DOMAINE CAZES , 212 dry and flavorful
BIO/biodynamic blend of the Muscat and the Viognier grapes is drinking really
well now and would be a delight when you grill out and are outside with family
and friends, at the beach, at the lake , in the mountains, by a cooling and
refreshing stream ... lovely! From France's Cotes Catalanes in Rivesaltes, go to
: www.cazes riversaltes.com for more info.

the weekend tastings with both Jody Jackman and Andrew Stover were grand
successes : we introduced some great wines to many people and I will mention
some of those now :

From Jody :
1/  ' Clean Slate ' 213 Riesling from Germany's Mosel region : $10.99 a
bottle, 10.5 percent alcohol by volume : refreshing and everyone pretty much
exclaimed that they did not generally like Riesling but this one they did! hanks
Jody.

2/ 2011 Cabernet Sauvignon from Catena in Argentina's Mendoza Valley :
$20.99 a bottle, 13 percent alcohol by volume, : both Jody and I tasted this and
agreed that it was our favorite Catena red now. It has pretty much always been
my favorite Catena red. I remember discovering it in the early nineties when I
met Nicolas Catena for a private meeting with Nora Favelukes and myself : just
the three of us at Bilbo Baggins' restaurant in Old towne , Alexandria to
discuss how he could launch his wines here in the Washington D.C. region, I
loved the Cabernet then and still do! It is drinking beautifully now, so
balanced and fruit/forward and balanced, and tasty now! Glad to have it on our
shelves. We also celebrated Argentina's Day of Independence when tasting it that
happened earlier this July.

3/ 2006 ' Quorum ' Grande Vindimia from LIDIO CARRARO in Brazil's Serra
Gaucha region : On Special for $56.99 a bottle. It is a dry blend of 40 percent
Merlot, 25 percent Cabernet Sauvignon, 20 percent tannat and 15 percent Cabernet
Franc. I loved everything about the wine : classic, traditional. like a fine
Italian wine from Veneto, Italy where they originally came from. Or like a fine
old world style French Bordeaux wine before they started making a more modern
style to appeal to more modern palates. It is an excellent food wine, it will
shine with a meal.

AND With  the 20 percent tannat that is added it gives the wine a ' new '
dimension from Brazil that you do not normally taste! I like that : Patricia
Carraro the owner presented it to us here in August 2012 and we started with the
everyday Merlot and now have poured and sold some of this very special ' Quorum
' that is world class.  Be one of the first to discover it and to share it with
family and friends and those that you know that love French Bordeaux ' with a
twist! ' Cheers, obregado Jody ...

From Andrew Stover :

1/ Gruner Veltliner Loibenberg Smaragd  from Loiben, Wachau /  2011 from
tEGERNSEERHOF/ MItELBACH, $32.99 we have a rich and thick velvet golden white
carpet of Gruner lushness and brightness that was truly magical on this past
Saturday, 13.5 percent alcohol by volume, balanced and dry and wonderful with or
without a meal! I loved it, Malcolm loved and bought some, it was a show
stopper!

2/ ' Rosenberg ' 2013 Gruner Veltliner from ANton BAUER in Austria's Wagram
valley, 17.99 a bottle,  12.5 percent alcohol by volume: not as rich or thick or
intense but every bit as appealing and easier to drink and enjoy especially if
outside in the heat and humidity. A real special treat, balanced and flavorful
with finesse and some real silk flavors, too.

3/ Dry 2010 ' taste red '  Long Island New York State blend of 60 percent
Merlot, 20 percent Syrah, 12 percent Petit Verdot, 6 percent Cabernet Franc and
2 percent Malbec / $30.99 a bottle, 13 percent alcohol by volume : flavorful,
some real flesh and backbone for those wanting a heartier and gutsier bottle to
drink. For me it needs more time. I think I would really like the wine in
another 3 to 5 years as it will smooth out and lose some of the edge it showed
for me on Saturday : but that is only my palate, others loved it and bought it
to enjoy now.

ALSO In WINE :

1/ Dan terassa brought me some of the 500ml PASSAGEM Porto Vintage 2011 to
taste this morning, $52.99 a bottle : the COLOR alone is so dark and murky and
delightful . I just took a sip from my plastic cup from earlier. I love that it
is so thick that I could hide under it, my tongue at least : that it could
saturate my tongue and give it this same deep garnet/purple hue that is simply
glorious.
DAN KEPt MENtIONING that it drank more like a wine and not a port.
DAN KEPt SAYING that it was a phenomenal vintage the 2011
DAN KEPt pressing that it was an unbelievable value and that there were few
to match it!

I KEPt thinking how smooth and velvety and silky the taste was, how lush
and delicate almost with no bite, so approachable, so incredibly drinkable it is
now so that people can all get a bottle when it comes in August and enjoy it
late at night outside with family and friends and feel like a million dollars
and more!

WE HAVE NOW the PASSAGEM Porto Late Bottled Vintage 2009, On Special for
$22.99 a bottle, 20 percent alcohol by volume in a 500ml bottle now / agora that
can also be enjoyed now while so many are relaxing and stealing moments to feel
like a million dollars any chance that they can. Love it, obregado Dan, glad to
have this LBV PASSAGEM here for everyone to enjoy ...

2/ 2010 Chardonnay from Elgin, South Africa and made by PAUL CLUVER :
$18.99 a bottle , 13.5 percent alcohol by volume, this is a really beautiful,
balanced wine. Love it.

tastings this week :

FRIDAY, July 25th, 2014  5 to 8 PM  : We have Iason and Sotiris here
tasting an assortment or really fine Greek wines for you all to discover and

  • Jandir Passos Surely will be an great wine tasting. If possible Tony try get the tasting notes made by present public. In an nearest future I hint you make a blind tasting with brazilian wines and other wines of another countries. For example, CS of Brazil X CS of Argentina(ou even France) and so on.

  • Bralvin We can work on that project together Jandir, sounds good, but I like tasting them as they are they , they are fine wines as they are, I already know that! Just sold some more SALTON Cabernet Sauvignon Volpi 2010 to an Irish lady for a steak meal tonight, she was very happy to try it with her daughter and I cannot wait to hear what they say?
